That’s kind of how things go with these two. Kristen dreams big; Peter quietly figures out how to make it happen. Together, they’ve navigated a complete rebuild of a 90-year-old waterfront icon — balancing heritage with modern function, and always guided by a belief in honesty, quality, and community.
Ask them what makes them the proudest, and they’ll tell you it’s the locals who who pop in with wide eyes and warm memories — or the octogenarians who still remember stopping by as kids. Their dream is simple but heartfelt: that eighty years from now, another generation will have stories to tell about the little general store by the water.
For now, you’ll find Peter and Kristen juggling the business and their own family bubble — a happy little chaos of kids, community, and daily to-dos. Their extended family is mostly in Vancouver and the UK, so they’ve built their life here as a close-knit team, supported by neighbours, friends, and plenty of coffee.
Come by and say hi. They’ll likely be out front stocking shelves, brewing coffee, or chatting with regulars — because that’s just the kind of place this is.
The heart (and hands) behind Halfmoon General’s next chapter.
Peter and Kristen didn’t exactly plan to rebuild a historic general store on the edge of the Pacific. But somehow — between a Halloween party, a career pivot (or two), and a shared love for community — that’s exactly what happened.
Peter, originally from the UK, was a web developer with a plan to travel for six months and maybe try out Vancouver for a year. That was over a decade ago.
Kristen, born and raised in BC, had spent her childhood summers on Thormanby Island and built a career in hospitality that took her everywhere from New York to Panama. But the Coast kept calling her back.
When the Halfmoon Bay General Store came up for sale, Kristen saw more than a business — she saw a chance to build a life that felt like summer could last forever.
Peter saw… well, a few unknowns and a steep learning curve. Two days later, he found himself with a new job. Two months later, they were expecting their first child.
